Course Content
This course is designed not only for garage service technicians who are new to air conditioning technology and service procedures but also to technicians with some experience using automated gas retrieval equipment.
The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required for air conditioning servicing on passenger cars. This course will also cover diagnosis of common refrigerant circuit problems and safe working practise with vehicle air conditioning systems in accordance to the standard specified by current legislative conditions.
Following government approval, completion of this course will enable a Refrigerant Handling Certificate to be obtained. Such certification is expected to be a legislative requirement for the automotive industry in the near future.
Modules and subject areas
The course is divided into linked subject areas, which allow the essential underpinning theory and practical skills knowledge to be delivered effectively. The course content includes the following topics:
• Introduction to air conditioning and essential knowledge
• Refridgeration systems and cycles
• Electrical system design function and pressure control
• Workshop health and safety procedures, COSHH
• Refridgeration system fault diagnosis
• Service equipment and procedures
• Safe handling of refrigerant and environmental concerns
Attainment
On successful completion of VSB 15 delegates will be able to:
| • |
Identify the components of a typical air conditioning system and state their function. They will be conversant with all stages of the refrigeration cycle and be able to correctly identify the states and conditions applicable to each one. |
| • |
Carry out typical gas evacuation and charge procedures on a vehicle air conditioning system and perform the necessary pre and post charge tests and checks. |
Prerequisites
Familiarity with air conditioning service equipment will be an advantage and prior completion of an appropriate equipment user’s course is recommended.
Assessment and Certification
The tests and practical tasks will be carried out using Bosch test equipment, System information, training notes and course material.
Delegates will be expected to complete a course examination.
A certificate of competence will be issued to those achieving a pass mark of 70% or over.
To obtain full Diagnostic Technician status the delegate is required to complete the Diagnostic Technician, one day practical and theory test.
Upon successful completion, the delegate will be awarded with Bosch Diagnostic Technician status and certificate, awarded by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
Accreditation
All Bosch Diagnostic Technician programme courses are co-certified by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) QAA scheme.
