Course Content
Developed for garage technicians involved in the test and repair of vehicle braking systems, this course will be of great benefit to those technicians who require training on Braking and ABS systems. The subjects covered are brake actuation and hydraulics Bosch 2S, 2E and ABS 5 design systems. The knowledge and skills can be applied to similar systems of non Bosch origin. The operation, maintenance and testing of the system is covered enabling the workshop staff to apply approved methods of safety when carrying out service and diagnostic procedures. It will also provide the foundation knowledge and skills required for attendance on advanced chassis control systems training.
Modules and subject areas
The course is divided into linked modules and subject areas, which allow the essential underpinning theory and practical skills knowledge to be delivered effectively. The modules and subject areas cover the following topics:
• Essential braking knowledge
• ABS systems overview
• ABS physical properties
• ABS functional overview
• ABS wheel speed sensors
• ABS systems overview 2 and 5
Attainment
On successful completion of VSC 6 delegates will be able to:

Carry out fault diagnostic tests on typical ABS systems to identify system and component faults that need replacement or repair. |

Perform a complete typical ABS system test to prove the integrity of the system and the associated brake functions that are included with ABS control. |
Prerequisites
Successful completion of vehicle systems course VSE 1 “Essential Test Procedures” is a prerequisite to attending VSC 6 and delegates should be familiar with typical multi-scope tester operation. Prior attendance on VSTD 9 “Diagnosis using the Oscilloscope” is strongly recommended as well as the appropriate equipment user’s courses.
Assessment and Certification
The tests and practical tasks will be carried out using Bosch test equipment, service information, training notes and course material.
Delegates will be expected to complete a course examination.
A certificate of competence will be issued to those achieving a pass mark of 70% or over.
To obtain full Diagnostic Technician status the delegate is required to complete the Diagnostic Technician, one day practical and theory test.
Upon successful completion, the delegate will be awarded with Bosch Diagnostic Technician status and certificate, awarded by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
Accreditation
All Bosch Diagnostic Technician programme courses are co-certified by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) QAA scheme.
