Diagnostic Technician Programme |
Course Content
This course has been developed for garage service technicians who carry out electrical test and diagnosis on modern vehicle systems. The focus is to provide delegates with a working knowledge of the test procedures that allow correct diagnosis of system and circuit faults.
The theoretical underpinning instruction and practical diagnostic tests will provide trainees with sound foundation knowledge of auto electrical principles and test procedures using digital multi-meter and multi-scope equipment. Attendance on this course is a prerequisite to further attendance and successful development on other vehicle systems courses in the programme.
Modules and subject areas
The course is divided into linked modules and subject areas, which allow the essential theory and practical skills knowledge to be delivered effectively. The modules and subject areas cover the following topics:
• The electrical values.
• Electrical measurement.
• Identification of typical circuit symbols and use of wiring diagrams.
• Test methods for circuit continuity, insulation and resistance.
• Electrical properties and the testing of series and parallel circuits.
• Battery and energy systems operation, testing and diagnosis.
• Test methods for circuits using voltage drop measurement.
Attainment
On successful completion of VSE 1 delegates will be able to:
| • |
Refer to a typical system wiring diagram, identify the electrical components and the current paths connecting them to the control unit(s) of the system. |
| • |
Complete the electrical test procedures for the electrical systems on a typical vehicle or demonstration test circuit. |
| • |
Carry out correct test procedures using voltage, resistance, current and voltage drop measurements to determine circuit condition and identify faults which may be present in vehicle system circuits. |
Assessment and Certification
The tests and practical tasks will be carried out using Bosch test equipment, service information, training notes and course material.
Delegates will be expected to complete a course examination.
A certificate of competence will be issued to those achieving a pass mark of 70% or over.
To obtain full Diagnostic Technician status the delegate is required to complete the Diagnostic Technician, one day practical and theory test. Upon successful completion, the delegate will be awarded with Bosch Diagnostic Technician status and certifi cate, awarded by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
Accreditation
All Bosch Diagnostic Technician programme courses are co-certifi ed by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) QAA scheme.
