Master Technician Programme |
Course Content
This course is intended for garage service technicians who are involved in advanced electronic diagnostic procedures and repair work on motor vehicles.
The aim of this course is to extend the delegate’s knowledge of electronic principles and advance their understanding on the workings of electronic components and circuitry. Today’s complex systems require technicians with a high level of understanding and a well developed thought process. Emphasis on this course is given to the construction of specialised electronic circuits and practical testing using laboratory oscilloscopes. The knowledge gained will aid trainees in their diagnostic approach to electronically controlled systems and prepare them for future trends in automotive technology.
Modules and subject areas
The course is separated into linked subject areas to allow the essential underpinning theory and practical skills knowledge to be delivered effectively. The course content is based upon the following topics:
• Cathode ray oscilloscope theory and operation
• A.C. waveform principles and rectification circuits
• Waveform properties and manipulation by component influences
• Transistor theory, signal convertors and mulitvibrator circuits.
• Amplifier circuits, pulse width modulation and current control
• Op amps, ECU structures, digital electronicsand logic gates
• CAN bus message protocol and structure
Attainment
On successful completion of VSE 11 delegates will be able to:
| • |
Complete more advanced electronic analysis of vehicle circuitry and carry out diagnosis of electronic system faults at a higher level. Better evaluation of intricate circuitry combined with more in-depth waveform analysis of control electronics on vehicle systems will be made possible. |
Prerequisites
The minimum prerequisites for this advanced vehicle systems course are the successful completion of courses VSTD 9, VSE7, VSG 5 and VSG 14. Delegates are expected to be familiar with oscilloscope waveform manipulation and advanced electrical fault-finding. A good understanding of mathematic principles will also be an advantage.
Assessment and Certification
The tests and practical tasks will be carried out using Bosch test equipment, System information, training notes and course material.
Delegates will be expected to complete a course examination.
A certificate of competence will be issued to those achieving a pass mark of 70% or over.
To obtain full Master Technician status the delegate is required to complete the Master Technician, one day practical and theory test. Upon successful completion, the delegate will be awarded with Bosch Master Technician status and certificate, awarded by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
Accreditation
All Bosch Master Technician programme courses are co-certified by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) QAA scheme.
